Unbeknownst to many here in the Fairchild science cluster, the Library is home to a rich and vibrant Book Arts Program dedicated to promoting an understanding of the art and history of the printed and written word.
So what? What does this mean for me, you ask? Well, for your benefit and absolutely free, the Book Arts Program sponsors
- the Book Arts Workshop, a free workshop open to all members of the Dartmouth College community that provides instruction and workshop space for letterpress printing and hand bookbinding.
- seminars and workshops with nationally known book artists, binders and typographers.
- the Book Arts Prize for excellence in printing and bookbinding.
- exhibits displaying the items created in the workshop and examples from the library collection of excellence in printing and binding.
The BAP has just released its schedule of workshops for winter term. Take a break from the lab and explore single-signature pamphlet bindings, folio books with pockets and windows, moleskin notebooks, — you can even learn to bind your own works, or create a classic portfolio for sketches or documents.
Workshops are limited to 8 participants; please email the workshop instructor (listed on the schedule) to sign up.
