Wikipedia’s Editing Process Is Still a Mystery to Students

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports a new study on student awareness of Wikipedia editors. While Wikipedia remains a valuable resource for students and faculty alike, many are unaware of the ease with which someone can become an editor. For example, the history page of the Wikipedia entry for Dartmouth College shows some typical edits by a variety of authors. This page shows editing from robots, humans, and persons who may or may not be affiliated with the College. “Of the 210 participants in the study, ‘none of the people looked at the history or discussion page.’”
