Held each April, Mathematics Awareness Month highlights mathematical developments or applications in a particular area. As an effort to increase public understanding of and appreciation for mathematics, the sponsors of this program provide written material such as posters. The theme for this year is complex systems. Previous themes have focused on a variety of topics including climate, art, and the cosmos.
Mathematics Awareness Month is sponsored by the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (JPBM), which is a collaborative effort of the American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The AMS also has outreach materials and posters for public awareness of mathematics in everyday life.
